1. Are there any recipes I should start out with?
2. Any specific cookbooks geared towards teenagers?
3. Are there places where I can take classes cooking food that I would like to eat?
pregnant teenager
spend time in the kitchen..watching and helping and trying out stuff
get help from mom!!
Cook books, recipes on the Internet, but above all…get into the kitchen and try cooking thimgs.
It always helps to have someone around who can cook and show you some of the tricks of the trade.
Good Luck
take cooking classes in school-they are very fun and then you get to eat what you make
I would ask everyone you know for easy recipes. That is a great way to start.
well maybe you can try to fry an egg first.. it’s the most simple thing but i have tried many an egg which turned out a horrid chewy texture because the person doesn’t know how to fry it.
With regards to cookbooks, try to look for those with detailed instructions, and with pictures telling you how to do it…
Try the local community centre they may have cooking classes.. and you’ll learn better coz it’s demostrated in front of you…
best bet is to watch someone cook especially mom, or granny…
Watch the Foodnetwork channel and find simple recipies. 30 Minute Meals is a good one for you to watch.
start out helping someone in the kitchen.
Then go on and take classes or something.
1. Try the Food Network. They have recipes graded by difficulty. Watch some of their shows and try making some of the easier stuff. Sometimes Emeril comes up with some easy stuff on his show.
2. Rachael Ray has some easy kid-appealing recipes. Try Betty Crocker also.
3. Sometimes your school or local community college might have some evening cooking classes open to the community.
Good luck!
A good recipe to start with is a simple batch of cookies or cake, like this one:
Chewy Chocolate Cookies
INGREDIENTS
2/3 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
DIRECTIONS
In large bowl cream shortening, sugar, water and vanilla extract. Beat in eggs. In a separate bowl, combine flour, cocoa, salt and baking soda and gradually add to creamed mixture. Beat until just blended. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts.
Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 7 - 9 minutes. Do not overbake. Cool 2 minutes before removing from cookie sheet.
Also you can watch your parents cook, or even get your friends together and try making something from a good cook book!! Good luck!
My advise to you is to start off with watching a person cooking. You mom and whoever does the cooking at your home. Offer to help in food preparation; peeling, chopping, cleaning after, etc.
This could be done by also watching cooking shows.
Eventually, you will have the courage to try things and you will be on your way.
Good Luck!
go on the internet and look up local cooking classes for your area. If you have a viking store they offer cooking classes there it cost money of course but its awesome on what they teach you there. There are many cookbooks that you can try you just have to look at them and pick a cookbook that is simple and easy for starters. go to and there are many recipes that you can find and it tells you if its easy, medium, or hard to cook. maybe you can go there and find something simple. Try a cookie recipe or something easier than that. Or just go to the store buy a tube of cookies and bake them. There are short cuts on everything. Or try to bake cakes. make sure you have everything you need first before you start t bake or cook food.
You could try the recipes I have on my Cheap and Easy Recipes web site. They are designed to be simple, tasty and nutritious.
I started with the take five cookbook, no recipe in it has more than 5 ingredients. Follow them to the letter, at first and then get creative. Then try some harder ones, as you go along you’ll realize that you get better and certain foods generally use the same types of spices and ingredients frequently. Use this knowledge to create your own recipes or to expand on old favorites. Also, use the best cook in your home, usually Mom or Dad for advice and to reassure you that you are doing well, but don’t allow them to take over and do it for you, just take tips. Watching can be difficult because everyone has their own methods and may not measure exactly, as they have more experience. Collect as many recipes as you can from parents, grandparents, family friends, etc. The main thing is just to try, try again, and realize you may mess up and that’s okay, just keep it as a funny story for later. Hope that helps!
1. One of the easiest “first” foods is a cake. Find your favorite brand and flavor, buy the required ingredients listed on the back of the box, and your favorite canned frosting. Tips: (A). Buy a couple boxes of Jello Pudding. Add that in, before cooking. It will give the cake more moisture. (B). When you begin to spread the icing on the cake, it will go on easier if you dip the spatula, cake spreader, or knife in warm water in between swirling.
2. I know of no specific cookbooks geared toward teenagers, but I do a great deal of mail order. I recommend the following websites because they have cookbooks for simple one-dish recipes, crock pot dishes, etc.: and.
3. Your local high school usually has Summer cooking classes OR you can sign up for Home Economics this fall. Also, MOST community colleges have courses you can sign up for. Contact or go by one closest to you and get a catalog and / or register there for a course (there are specific dates that this is done but if you go there and find something, you can save yourself a great deal of time by getting the necessary paperwork done). Finally, some cities (ours here in Mesquite, Texas) have Summer Recreation paper catalogs that are printed. There is always a section for people like yourself who are looking for cooking courses and fun things to do. Call your Chamber of Commerce and/ or the Human Resources Department of your City Manager/ Mayor and tell them you are looking for a catalog such as I’ve described. You’re wondering if they print one for Summer Recreation activities in town. They’ll be able to tell you. Good luck to you!
Always help you mum when she is cooking and you will learn on how to cook. Mums are good at cooking and will teach you of certain recipes that are not found in all the books, unless you have a Mum who is always buyiing take - aways
Get Rachel Rays 30 minute meals cookbook or go to Barn’s and Nobels. They have many great cookbooks for begginers.
Why don’t you start by learning some techniques from the food network- they also have some pretty easy recipes to start with also. Cooking can be fun. Ask your parent(s) for some lessons, or other family members that enjoy cooking. Given that you already would like to learn, I think you will end up a great cook, since the interest is there, and you are starting early– GOOD LUCK!
Start with a simple recipe that you like. I would start out with a simple side dish. Try Taste of Home magazine they have good recipes for down home cooking. Try a home ec class in your school or maybe check your local park district to see if they offer any classes. Or even better if you know someone who knows how to cook offer to help out and I’m sure they’ll be glad to give you some pointers. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes that’s how you learn. Practice Practice Practice.
The best advice i can give is to just experiment run things by you parents to see if the combination would go and then try and make it that is how i started and i have been cooking in a restaurant for 4 years
