Daisy asked:

Any advice on how to get your teenager to co operate and be more pleasant. I am trying to ignore the negative behaviour and make of the good. I have advised her I understand how she cant control her emotions at times but she is continually ignorant to everyone in the family including her siblings.

Daisy, most teens are like that. It’s part of growing up. I went through four of them! Doesn’t mean you have to put up with it. Just don’t reprimand her when she does this. Ignore her. When she asks a snotty question or favor, just don’t answer it or do it. When she asks “Why,” Just say “it’s the way you treat me and the family.” As far as you’re concerned, she has to “earn her way back into the family.” In the US, we don’t call it “cheeky,” we call it “snotty,” which relates their behavior to what runs out of their noses. I DO know what you’re talking about.

Hi, I can relate to what you are going through. I am a seperated Mother of 3, two girls and one boy who is 8 yrs old. The girls are 17 and 20 and are the rudest, laziest, bad tempered and would not do anything for me. At the beginning it really got to me but now I just try and ignore them as best as I can. One day it will hit them hard about how they treat me and my family (who have been very supportive of me and them through my seperation). Just count to ten and walk away - its the safest way. Good Luck to you and remember when they do finally grow up they will go through the same with their kids and who will get the last laugh !!!!!!!!!
