teenager
Todd R asked:

Have you ever noticed that when a child or teenager goes missing the picture is of a white female. Why isn’t of a black, hispanic, or asian? Is this because (and I am not raciest or bias) just making a point. Is it because white females are prettier than the other races or because they maybe more susceptible to the *** slave trade than the other races? Or is because the media is infatuated with the white female image and believes that they deserve more attention than the black, hispanic, asian girls? What do think?

i think its because minority parents forget they have kids and don’t report them missing

I agree, its true. Even though we claim to be past the whole racism thing it’s still very evident in the media with stereotyping and such.

Maybe it’s a factor or where you live? Because here, there seems to be no bias about who goes missing and I see all races represented in these sad announcements of these sad circumstances.

We have reports and photos of children of various races here, in proportion to their numbers in our actual area.

Maybe because black, hispanic, and asian girls are smarter than white girls so as not to go missing.

Maybe it is your perception making you feel that way, not reality.

this observation really started heating up during the Natalee Holloway case. Before her it was the Elizabeth Smart case.

My only thought it that in the general ****** thought, news anchors tend to think to themselves “Black and hispanic people live in violent, lower class neighborhoods where crime is the norm. No one is going to be shocked if their kids go missing, it happens every day.”

However if a white girl from an affluent family gets abducted from her family, it is sensationalized. People think it’s some extraordinary event, as though someone having money protects them from all the evil in the world.

In the end, it’s about selling air time and newspapers. which are people going to tune into? 7 year old Tina Alvarez goes missing in her low class neighborhood where crime and poverty are the norm… or 18 year old blonde girl from a rich family is murdered while celebrating her high school graduation in Aruba?

You are correct.

White girls/women are plastered all over the newspapers, television & radio, when they have been reported missing!

Yet their A.A., Latino & Asian counterparts get very little media coverage at all, if any, simply because of their RACE/SKIN COLOR.

It’s the great racial divide!

There is so much racism in the media, it is absolutely pathetic!

The media has always been fixated with the White woman, that’s because the media is owned & operated by White people & this is the image they portray to the world.

It’s a sad state of affairs, when one group of individuals is supposedly SYMBOLIC of everything pure, innocent & wonderful!

Society has always perceived White women as the EPITOME of beauty, grace, & intelligence, God’s gift to the world, if you will!

But the flip side of that is ALL women are equally beautiful, graceful & intelligent!

These GREAT qualities are not limited to one race of individuals, they are widespread.

Missing white woman syndrome.

been there done that on 6 August, 2009 at 7:37 am #

I live near Detroit Michigan and there are amber alerts all the time. The majority of them are for black children, so I can’t confirm your hypothesis. I am sure that population demographics play a large part in what is reported (as per who is missing).

u do realise beauty is in every race and if you lined everyone up without make-up & natural hair; you’ll realise which race is the prettiest……the other race’s parents keep their children in safe place and are very strict; they don’t allow their children to go out, like the white race………..that’s what I think…
