If he is known to be mentally ill…. should he be sent to jail or to the hospital for a week or two for a medication check?
I am not adding more details because the police had no more information then he was mentaly ill. ( I am just getting views)
Thanks for the answers.

Yes if the Mother decides to press charges, otherwise, the teenager’s handicap will be taken into consideration along with other details, which, obviously, the police are not releasing. God Bless.
I think he needs to be psychiatrically assessed. Yes, I think he needs to be admitted to a hospital that has facilities for the mental health patients, and be assessed and his medication be monitored. I have a son who is under the care of mental health and is on a lot of medication for his condition. He has told me that if he gets aggressive I am to have him admitted for observation. In hospital they can monitor the medication and reactions.
yes, he can be taken into custody, but if the mother does not press charges he may not necessarily be taken to jail.
if it was malicious enough, the police may take matters into their own hands and prosecute
yes, he could be sectioned also only if his mother wants this though
Have sympathy for the child… He probably thought it was spaghetti made with brown rye flour. Maybe she did it. Maybe she’s the crazy one?

Yes he can be arrested (teenager or not) if he is mentally ill he will be arrested just the same BUT if he is not found fit to stand trail he will be sent to a mental institution until he can be classified as “no risk for the community” (you don’t want mentally ill people handling sharp tools).
Be awarded that not all metal conditions are a free ticket from jail. People with some kinds of psychosis, bipolar disorders or anti-social behavior for example are fit to stand trial.
if he has diagnosed with a mental illness, incarcerating him will not do any good. jail is not going to give him the care that he needs…he needs to be send to an in house treatment facility or psychiatric hospital because yes, he is a threat to others and to himself…he may be going through a cycle depending on what mental illness he has…it could also be that if he has been taking new medication or different doses or stopped taking his meds, this could be a reason for….but jail is not the place you want to put someone who is mentally ill…
